If you're headed to the coast this weekend, plan around the tide. The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory Wednesday for Orange County Coastal and San Diego County coastal areas, with minor to locally moderate flooding expected.

The advisory runs from Friday morning to Tuesday noon

  1. Nov. 6 takes effect at 4 a.m.
  2. Nov. 9Surf will increase, though details are uncertain.
  3. Nov. 10Advisory is set to end at noon.
  • Highest tides: late morning each day
  • Flooding expected: lots, parks and roads
  • Road closures: only isolated ones expected
  • Also expected: dangerous rip currents and surf on west-facing beaches

FOX 5 San Diego says the Weather Service encouraged coastal residents and business owners to prepare for rising water. We suggest allowing extra time if you're driving near the shore, and never driving around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

1.3 to 1.6 feetabove predictions for observed high tides

That's how far observed high tides ran above astronomical tide predictions, according to the National Weather Service.
